New River families gather for holiday stories, crafts at North Pole Party

Grab your coat and hitch a sleigh ride, we’re heading to the North Pole. It is approximately 3,818 miles from Jacksonville, NC to the North Pole, making it quite a long day trip. Families from Marine Corps Air Station New River didn’t have to travel so far to experience holiday festivity with the MCAS New River Library’s North Pole Party on Dec. 13.

“It’s fun to see the families get together,” said Jennie Tobler Gaston, MCAS New River Library branch manager. “The kids are excited for Christmas and Santa. The families bond over the season and the holiday stories we tell.”

Available crafts included a snow globe, popsicle snowman and a tissue paper decorated mitten as well as stations where kids would color and write letters to Santa Claus, just in time for Christmas. The library was filled with the sound of laughter and the excitement of children ready for the holidays. The celebration concluded with story time of various holiday tales and Christmas cookies.

“Events like this keep us active,” said Johanna Greenhall, mother of a young daughter in attendance. “They allow my daughter to make new friends and continue her learning.”
