Participants relax, make autumn décor at Fall Wreath Craft Night
Autumn is breezing in and the weather is beginning to cool. The days are growing shorter and the leaves are faintly starting to change color. The fall offers many opportunities for seasonal recreation for families.
For service members and their families, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Lejeune-New River offered the Fall Wreath Craft Night at the Tarawa Terrace Community Center on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Oct. 1.
“We started the fall craft night last year and it was a big hit,” said Jessica Anderson, MCCS Lejeune-New River supervisory recreation specialist. “Fall is a popular season and we are happy to see people come out and relax with craft-making.”
Relaxation was a common objective for many of the participants, especially after dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.
“I wanted to do something besides cleaning the yard,” said Renee Smith, event attendant. “This activity is a much welcomed and enjoyable change of pace.”
Craft night participants were putting together fall wreaths made with an assortment of ribbons, straw and other seasonal items.
“Sadly, many people have lost property in the storm,” said Amy Guareno, MCCS Lejeune-New River recreation specialist. “We are thrilled to give them the chance to begin to rebuild their supply of décor and enjoy fellowship with other families.”
The craft night is one of many events that MCCS Lejeune-New River offers to service members and their families to provide recreation from their daily activities and celebrate various occasions.
“I like coming out to have a ladies’ night out with my friends,” said Sandra Bradley, in attendance with a group of friends. “We are enjoying the wreath craft and the time spent together.”
