Theatre depicts all facets of life. Comedy, romance and tragedies all make their way to the stage. The Lejeune High School Theatre Guild has had to overcome numerous challenges this school year. Hurricane Florence and a fire damaged the auditorium where the guild both practices and performs.
They have had to improvise, adapt and overcome — embodying the resilient spirit of the Marine Corps. They are set to take the stage once again with their presentation of “Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells” by Allison Gregory at the Movie Theater on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune Dec. 6 through 8 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 8 through 9 at 3 p.m.
“It’s been a trying experience,” said Jonathon Connor, LHS theatre director and English teacher. “We have been through quite a trial, but we are determined to come out better on the other side. These students have worked hard and remained dedicated and it will pay off for us.”
According to Connor, the theatre guild has conducted play rehearsals in front of the school and in outdoor areas when necessary. The experience has allowed the guild to practice what Lejeune High School is all about.
“This is what Devil Pups do,” said Connor. “You power through what life is throwing at you to stop you and you come out better than before.”
Facility managers aboard MCB Camp Lejeune have lent their services to assist the guild to obtain needed space to practice for the upcoming production and provide a place for the performance.
“This is a great, lighthearted show,” said Heather Costello, LHS assistant theatre director. “It is a production great for the holidays and one the whole family can enjoy.”
