Ghouls’ Night Out features spooky crafts

There is a chill in the air. You can hear the howling of wolves in the wind. Autumn and Halloween are in full swing. People are decorating their homes, putting costumes together and getting their kids ready for trick-or-treating. The fun is not limited to just the kids, however. Marine spouses had the chance to participate in a Halloween-themed Ghouls’ Night Out Paint Party at the Staff Non-Commissioned Officers’ Club (SNCO) on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Oct. 5.

“This is our first Ghouls’ Night Out,” said Travis Dickerson, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) clubs and catering division manager. “It is part of our initiative to continue to offer spouses more events. One of our staff had the idea for a design party and it gave way to the Ghouls’ Night Out Paint Party.”

Dickerson expressed that due to Hurricane Florence, many schedules have been thrown off. Thankfully, the Ghouls’ Night Out was able to go as planned.

“We definitely had some adjusting and catching up to do,” said Dickerson. “I am glad to say we are getting back on track and we are able to continue with events like the paint party.”

Participants had the chance to decorate glasses with spooky ornamentals alongside their peers. It was viewed as a welcomed opportunity for down time.

“It’s always great to get out of the house and have fun with friends,” said Kelly Holmer, event attendant. “The theme is fun as well, so it makes for a great night.”

There were pumpkins and creatures of the night comprising the décor of the SNCO outdoor lounge area. The dark of the night added to the already haunting theme.

“I enjoy crafts and activities like this,” said participant India Pollard. “Getting to be out and do it with my friends just makes it that much more fun.”

With many children just getting back into school after Hurricane Florence, routines are just now getting back to normal for some families. The Ghouls’ Night Out Paint Party provided a chance for a breather after the stress of readjustment.

“Getting to be away from everything and have a girls’ night out is much appreciated,” said Kim Harper, mother and participant. “This is our chance to enjoy the season and time with each other.”
