Community Corner: Teen Holiday Party brings festive fellowship to Camp Lejeune youth
The holidays are in full effect. Lights radiate in neighborhoods and celebrations are happening in offices and homes alike. For teens on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, seasonal recreation was underway at the Teen Holiday Party at Harriotte B. Smith Library on MCB Camp Lejeune, Dec. 7.
“It’s nice to have a laid back time to take a break from school and enjoy the holidays,” said Lauren Estep, MCB Camp Johnson library technician.
Refreshments, video games and an abundance of lounge chairs were available for youths to partake in throughout the evening as they engaged in fellowship and fun. The Teen Holiday Party is the last teen event for the calendar year at HBS Library.
“We have some new faces tonight, which is always great to see,” said Sean Pittman, HBS Library programs and library technician supervisor. “This is our last teen event for the year. It overall has been a very successful year, but the retirement of Fran Bing has made it bittersweet. Her presence is definitely missed.”
According to Pittman, around 20 youths were in attendance to participate in the event. For library staff, the adjustment after Bing’s retirement in the fall continues to take place.
“She had such an incredible energy,” said Estep. “We are just trying to re-balance and continue on like she wants us to with regular events like the holiday party.”
