Camp Candy Cane celebrates, brings resources to Camp Lejeune families
The holidays are a time to celebrate loved ones and reflect on the good things in life. One of those good things is support from family, friends and a community. For Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River, providing support to families is its primary objective. To celebrate the holiday season and introduce families to available resources, MCCS Lejeune-New River presented its annual Camp Candy Cane at the Tarawa Terrace Community Center on MCB Camp Lejeune, Dec. 7.
“The aim is get information out to families,” said Jim Asher, Marine Corps Family Team Building Lejeune-New River readiness trainer. “Multiple organizations from throughout the community including the Exceptional Family Member Program, school liaisons and the base libraries brought crafts to do with the kids while talking with the parents about services they can provide. It is an enjoyable event and we are grateful for everyone who attends.”
According to Asher, around 100 participants were in attendance. Crafts including painting and coloring were available to children as well as a photo opportunity with Gunny Claus.
“This is out first time meeting Gunny Claus and he was very sweet,” said Victoria Arthur, wife of 2nd Lt. Cameron Arthur and mother of two young children, Aurora and Gunner Arthur. “It was nice to see all of the organizations here in one place to do something fun for the families.”
